Prayer to St. Josephine Bakhita Against Human Trafficking

St. Josephine Bakhita, you were sold into slavery as a child
and endured untold hardship and suffering.
Once liberated from your physical enslavement,
you found true redemption in your encounter with Christ and his Church.

O St. Bakhita, assist all those who are trapped in a state of slavery; Intercede with God on their behalf
so that they will be released from their chains of captivity.
Those whom man enslaves, let God set free.

Provide comfort to survivors of slavery
and let them look to you as an example of hope and faith.
Help all survivors find healing from their wounds.
We ask for your prayers and intercessions for those enslaved among us.

Amen.

RITA HEIKENFELD’S WHOLE WHEAT APPLE PANCAKES WITH NUTMEG SYRUP

Ingredients
1 cup whole Wheat Flour
½ cup wheat germ
2 eggs
1-1/2 C. buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 apple, peeled and roughly chopped
Instructions
Combine ingredients and cook on a hot griddle as you would regular pancakes.
Serves 3-4. These are wonderful because they do not have that heavy “whole wheat” taste.

Nutmeg Syrup
3/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon flour
Pinch of salt
1 cup boiling water
1 tablespoon butter
½ t. nutmeg

Combine sugar, flour and salt in a saucepan. Pour in boiling water. Stirring constantly, add butter and let boil 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add nutmeg. YUM!!!
