Vespers, Dayton

Hear the echo of the chime.  Watch the flicker of the candle.  Smell the incense as it rises.  Sense the presence of your neighbors as they chant in unison beside you.  Take a few minutes out of the hectic pace of life to experience something completely different, something authentic, something holy.  This is not a performance.  You will be praying with us.  Anyone who can hum or mumble can chant.

The Dayton Vespers Team leads chanted Evening Prayer (Vespers) in English (not Latin) using melodies and chants that are centuries old and simplified to make them accessible to everyday people.  We don’t put on concerts.  Our Vespers are beautiful because everyone chants the Word of God together.  Everyone participates, and that makes all the difference.  We can teach first-time chanters in five minutes.

Our hymn will be an English translation of the Ave Maris Stella, perhaps the most famous song ever written.  Come, lift your hearts and voices together in prayer to our Lord!
