This performance is free to the public, and no ticket is required; it is also part of the 2025-26 Cathedral Concert Series.
Musica Sacra, founded in 1965, is one of only three public-performing choirs in the Cincinnati area to achieve such longevity. The other two are the May Festival Chorus and the Cincinnati Boy Choir, which also was founded in 1965. Musica Sacra is the only chorus whose mission is to perform sacred choral masterworks in the spaces for which they were intended, with a professional orchestra, at no charge to the public.
Music Director Dr. L. Brett Scott, now in his 10th year with the choir, is expanding the choir’s mission to include performing works by lesser-known and previously overlooked composers, including women. As part of that forward-looking vision, the choir selected award-winning composer Jessica French to create their commission. She selected an original poem called ‘Receiving’ for the
text, and that is also the name of the new work.
The Seattle-based French will be present for the premiere and be working with UC College Conservatory of Music students during that week.
