Celebrating 20 Years of Hope
Boys Hope Girls Hope of Cincinnati will hold its 20th annual Hearts for Hope Gala February 11 at the Cincinnati Hilton Netherland Plaza. As a special anniversary recognition, all previous honorees for the organizations Heart of Gold Award will be honored as the 20th award is presented to Sukanya Madlinger, president of The Kroger Company, Cincinnati/Dayton marketing area,
Founded in 1977, Boys Hope Girls Hope is a national non-profit, privately funded organization dedicated to helping at-risk children succeed by providing support and educational opportunities. For nearly 30 years, the Cincinnati chapter has given academically capable and motivated children the ability to meet their full potential by providing value-centered, family-like homes, opportunities and education through college.
Boys Hope Girls Hope refers to the young people it helps as "scholars," not clients. Scholars live in residential neigbhorhoods, attend Catholic schools, and participate in sports and other extracurriculars, service, worship, jobs, and internships. Although they live away from home, their families continue to be involved in their lives. A second, community-based program works with scholars who remain at home, providing summer and after-school programs in elementary school, ongoing mentoring and tutoring, partnerships with parents, and full scholarships to St. Francis DeSales or Purcell Marian High Schools.
"The gala event serves to celebrate the accomplishments of our scholars and the community's outstanding individuals who have helped them succeed," says area Executive Director Sara Schindler. "This year, our award winners will join an elite group of nearly 30 previous honorees who have been recognized over the years for their dedication to the education of children."
The non-profit's major annual fundraiser is black tie optional. It includes a cocktail reception and silent auction, dinner, and dancing featuring Soul Pocket. For information or reservations call (513) 731-3380 or see the BHGH Cincinnati web site.
