A Sixth-Grader Took This Picture
Cardinal Pacelli School is serious about its art program. Want proof? This photo is just one of several winners in a grade 6-8 photography contest that followed an arts enrichment program with a professional photographer.
"The students who participated did a great job," said Tony Arrasmith, who worked with Cardinal Pacilli students in the photography part of the schools year-long arts enrichment program, and was one of the contest judges. "I could tell they really listened to my tips about originality and composition. There were wonderful motion, nature and landmark photos that answered the challenges of the contest."
Other activities in the program put together by the Cardinal Pacelli Fine Arts Committee include presentations by professional musicians (pictured: harpist Hee Jin Yoon), and activities in drama, singing, and even acrobatics. This April, four Chinese acrobats Bureau of Lectures will share their countrys distinct brand of acrobatics with students.
"At Pacelli, our commitment is to more fully incorporate art into the students daily experience. Doing so is a really fun way to give them a greater appreciation for everything you can learn from art," said Mitch Dunn, a parent member of the Fine Arts Committee.
Eyes on the Sky, the photo of the Mt. Lookout Observatory above, was taken by sixth-grader Kade Clifton. It won both the judges' and peoples' choice votes in the Mt. Lookout/Hyde Park Landscape category of the school's contest. You can see the photos on display at the schools open house Jan. 29 (see school web site for details), or click the link to see them all now.
Cardinal Pacelli School serves 410 students from preschool to grade 8. It is affiliated with Our Lord Christ the King Church and is located in the historic Mt. Lookout neighborhood of Cincinnati. It is a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
