Great Living Songwriter Performs at St. X Saturday
Jimmy Webb, the only person who has ever received Grammy Awards for music, lyrics, and orchestration, will perform Saturday night at St. Xavier High School. The concert, sponsored by the Greater Cincinnati Performing Arts Society, will also feature special guest Jason Wilbur.
Webb's most famous songs include Wichita Lineman, Up, Up, and Away (in my Beautiful Balloon), By the Time I Get to Phoenix, and MacArthur Park -- but many, many more have been recorded by singers in a variety of genres. Webb has recorded four solo albums and has written many scores for television and feature films, as well as a cantata for the London Symphony Orchestra. In 1999 Michael Douglas inducted him into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and last year he was unanimously elected as Chairman of The Songwriters' Hall of Fame.
The all-volunteer GCPAS was created five years ago to bring nationally prominent musical artists who play in medium-sized venues to Cincinnati, and to raise money for Catholic elementary schools. Founder Pete Ellerhorst says the Society plans to introduce a new fundraising model in the coming months -- well tell you when it's announced.
The concert Saturday begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $35. For more information about Webb, to buy tickets, or for a schedule up upcoming GCPAS concerts, see the GCPAS web site.
